Make compost / use a wormery

Making compost not only reduces the amount of waste we send to landfill sites (around 40% of the average dustbin's contents are suitable for home composting), but it's easy to make and also free. When applied to the garden, compost adds nutrients, improves soil structure and aids water retention. Man-made compost is also an alternative to the peat-based compost extracted from important natural wildlife sites. Wormeries are best used for kitchen waste, including cooked pasta, rice, vegetables, hair, vacuum dust etc.
